Set Your Face Like Flint

Isaiah 50:7 (KJV)

“For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.”

“Set your face like flint, set your face like flint, set your face like flint.” These are the words Holy Spirit spoke through my husband one night as I was speaking and wondering if what God told me to do was even helping anyone. God is also having us bridle our tongue against our own situations, tests, trials, etc (James 3:2, TPT), but that’s for another discussion.

I tend to look up a lot of things I don’t know, or that I want to get a visual of, so yes, I looked up the word “flint” and this is what it looks like:

It’s literally a rock. Set your face like a rock that’s harder than steel. Be not moved, disturbed, thrown off track, or distracted by what you see or what you think it should look like, but keep moving forward. This encouraged me to remember that I was doing the right thing by what I was led/told to do.

Isn’t that how it is though at times? God said do or act on one thing, but your physical eyes tend to become discouraged by the results. If whatever you’re doing is purely and genuinely led by God, then keep doing what He is leading you to do. There’s so much building of your spiritual-man through this process, and dying of your flesh at the same time.

I was like, “Oh yeah! I’m going to be bold, and finally get some things off my chest the Lord has been saying.” Little did I know the love wasn’t fully there. Now, some things you literally cannot say any other way, but my words were not exactly seasoned in the beginning… though true (Colossians 4:5-6, KJV). Wow! Who knew my transformation would be public and even the more humbling, but I didn’t stop.

I’ve learned that just because you have hiccups (whether publicly or behind-the-scenes), don't dare sit down because of embarrassment or shame. I think one of the best ways to learn is through experience or watching others. Also, keep those early “start-off moments” so not just you, but others can see and be encouraged by the growth. I truly believe that people relate to what is pure, what is genuine, and the process they can see through other peoples’ lives.

So, set your face like flint! Keep pushing and moving forward no matter the results, because God maybe doing something internally with you as well as others. Now, if Holy Spirit is leading you to something different to improve, be obedient. However, if He hasn’t said anything regarding change, then keep moving forward no matter what. Set your face like flint! Anything that may try to come up against your project for His kingdom will be cut by the stone. It is finished! It is done!

***Let’s Pray!!! Dear Lord, thank you for your fatherly discipline, but with the grace that you do it with as well. We couldn’t be more grateful. The subtleness, at first, in order to get our attention and conduct a change. We say thank you. We thank you that you have made us strong, you have made us bold. You have placed us in rooms and in places we never thought we would end up, but you have called us “more than qualified”, and for that we say thank you. You are doing a mighty work, and continue to do this through your children. You are showing us that age does not matter, size does not matter, intellectual background does not matter, and more. Father, you are using the small to do the great. You are showing your mighty hand strong in this time, and it is only getting stronger. “Watch Me” you say, so we will be obedient and do what you say and watch you do what you do best, and that is the impossible (Matthew 19:26, NASB). We love you, honor you, and appreciate everything there is about you. In Jesus’ Name we pray—Amen.***
