My Yoke is Easy, My Burden Light

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run into it and is safe.”

There’s so much here and so much the Lord has been trying to make me understand. There’s rest and safety in the multitude of counsel, and the ultimate rest you’ll find is in the arms of the Lord, Jesus Christ. There’s this spiritual hug from Him that is unmatched. Such a peace, safety, comfort, correction, even a rebuke that has such a gentleness about it that is respected if the fear of the Lord resides within you.

To have the yoke of Jesus Christ upon your neck, learning from everything that was endured from being under that yoke, my guess is, you’d never be the same. To learn from Jesus Himself through the scriptures and Spirit-to-spirit, you’d find yourself knowing His character through hard-times. Just the fact of knowing how to rest in the midst of hard times is a revelation unmatched. How can you look better in testing times than when you’re not? How can you come out of this looking taller in the spirit than when you began?

I believe, and have learned, that through the trials you gain more spiritual muscle. There’s an option to rise to the occasion or fall mercy to it. I believe the difference is knowing who you are in Christ…your identity. If you don’t know, or are ignorant, to who you are in Him you are bound to the lies the enemy has laid in your mind for years. You believe that you are less-than, or you even start to believe this false reality of what the devil has shown you verses what the Word of God clearly says of you.

Philippians 4:12-13

“I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

1 Peter 2:9-10

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

My spiritual father taught, and I thought this was so good, that if you want the glory you have to endure the longsufferings with God. Going to the next level in life will require sacrifice, longsuffering, endurance, and the yoke and burden of Christ. How will you be ready for more if you cannot handle the testing? The testing, betrayal, and temptations reveal the character and heart of where you currently stand. You’ll start to see things you thought you had been delivered from years’ ago that have yet to be dealt with.

You cannot move forward genuinely by God without first being healed. There has to be an inner-work and transformation; a building and work behind-the-scenes that has to take place in order for the Lord to bring you forth. Never place yourself in a place where God didn’t ordain you first. Save the embarrassment, the pressure, responsibility, and accountability for when you’re mature enough to handle it all with Him.

Lord, I’ll endure it all for you; whether it be in-front of others or behind closed doors, I’ll endure it all if it’s for you. Whatever you have for us to obtain and by whatever means you’d like for us to get it, Lord let your will be done. Father, your hands have done a mighty work already, and so we thank you for the push into the better, greater, grander things in life you so want for us to obtain. We repent for running from your yoke and your burden. We repent for being ignorant of how you move. We will not be scared nor frightened of that which you have required for us to suffer in order for our growth and maturity. Father, we thank you for the pruning and the longsuffering. We thank you for the refining and defining. Lord, we thank you for molding us into the image of our spirit. Lord, we thank you for molding us back into the image of Christ. Father, we thank you for your patience with us as we get it right and figure this life out with you. Let us not move ahead of you in ambition or pride, but Father, let us move with you in surety and in truth. We want to walk in your truth Lord and nothing else. You are our keeper and sustainer. We love you and deeply honor you. In Jesus’ Name we pray and ask these things. Amen.***
