Love

 1 Corinthians 13:1-3,13(NASB)

"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. ..but now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Love is not a feeling but an action or actions. It is the will to keep treating others as you would want to be treated, regardless of what they do or say. It is the hardest thing to do when the connection to Jesus is far. I can love you easy when I'm tight with my Saviour; you might try to push it but I won't be tempted. However, if I barely know Him, I can't possibly know what true love looks like or even where to start.

The love we should have for each other is agape, unconditional love; not love based on conditions. However, a lot of our "love" for each other is contingent upon what you have done for me, if you said "hi" or not, "did this person notice me"...just small, petty things. Honestly, if you know the person, there's no room for false thoughts to enter your mind. 80% of the time, it is just your thoughts. People might confuse their own thoughts with spiritual discernment, so it is very important to go before God and know the difference.

As you go further into 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, you will see love described. True love is not jealous or takes counts of wrongs. Me, personally, am learning what this love Jesus has for the church looks like through my marriage. I am taking note and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me and teach me on how to be a wife and love my husband as Christ loves the church. Now, I'm not saying I have reached the pinnacle of love and "we made it", but I am saying that God has truly changed my perspective on marriage and how Jesus is such a vital key to sustaining it.

The closer I get to God, the more I start to see my husband (and others) in a whole different light. God takes you to new levels of love you didn't even know were there. Past what is said, past what is done, I still try to practice loving on them even harder, because (honestly) those people are the ones who need it the most. The enemy doesn't know what to do with your love or how to handle it, so keep it pouring.

Stepping into God's love also is a sign of maturity. However, maturity is truly tested when it goes under the fire and put through some things...even the small ones. You can't honestly know by just saying, "I've made it. I'm mature now." The Lord will test this maturity in that very thing or person which caused you to "develop".

To end, knowing the mind, will, and heart of God in close proximity will never fail you, and will lead you to the true foundation of love (1 John 4:7-8, NASB). If you're serious about having a close relationship with Jesus, you have to love His people. It cannot be an act or rehearsed; it has to come from the heart of God. The more time you spend with Him, the more His characteristics and attributes will rub off on you, and you'll start to look more and more like His own.

***Let's Pray! 💕 Dear God, thank you! Thank you for showing us what true love looks like through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Thank you for pouring into us continuously the more we seek and run after you. God we know you won't disappoint and you never have. Help us to love our neighbor as we would ourselves. Father, help us to not be hypocritical in our hearts towards our brothers and sisters, but help us to genuinely develop your love for them through us. Work through us God to do a mighty, wondrous work of love on your people. God, let us not be selfish in our doings. Let us remember and serve others in love with a willing heart. Let us not hold grudges against others, because we are confident enough in ourselves to know who we are in you. God, let us work together in your Kingdom of heaven, here on earth, and not even be tempted by the subtle hint of competition. Father, I speak against the spirit of competition now in every church, every workplace, every marketplace, every school, and anywhere else this is keeping your love away from doing your Kingdom work. God we love you because you first loved us, so let us reflect this love on others effortlessly. In the mighty name of Jesus-Amen.***
